We’re on the hunt for our next intern
9th November 2015
What does Splendid Futures offer?
We offer a three month paid internship position where interns have the opportunity to work on some of the world’s most iconic brands. From day one, interns work under the guidance of a dedicated mentor, who will offer direction and advice on how to build a career in the communications industry.
During an intern’s time at Splendid they will gain valuable knowledge and hands-on experience within an integrated agency. Interns will gain a holistic view of all Splendid disciplines (PR, social media, activations, events and design) and understand how they all work together – at Splendid, we call this deep level of campaign integration ‘knitting’.
Who can apply to Splendid Futures?
Splendid Futures is a programme for people committed to a start in the communications industry. Unfortunately, this means we are unable to accept applications from those still in education or on a gap year. However, the upside is that interns are managed in a similar way to full-time employees and are given specific actions and projects to own, with objectives set at the start of the placement. This gives graduates the chance to prove they’re ready to be offered a permanent position with the team.
What internship opportunities are available?
Interns on the Splendid Futures PR programme will gain experience in media relations and negotiating editorial coverage, placing editorial promotions, writing press releases, social media listening and copy writing. Interns will also get the opportunity to attend brainstorms, assist at PR photo shoots, manage media lists and coverage reports and use PR software such as Gorkana and Media Eye. During the course of this work PR interns should build a portfolio of national, consumer and regional coverage and a network of media contacts.
Interns on the Splendid Futures digital programme will gain experience in creating social imagery, copywriting for brand social channels, social media listening, spotting reactive opportunities and researching digital trends. Interns will also get involved in creating competitor analysis, sourcing props, attending brainstorms, using data analysis tools and influencer relations. During this time social media interns should create a portfolio of brand content they have created.
Interns on the Splendid Futures design programme will gain experience supporting the creative team in design tasks. Tasks will include social content creation, designing editorial layouts, creating press invitations, app and website design and cross media advertising. Design interns need to be confident in using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.
Activations & Events
Interns on the Splendid Futures activations and events programme will gain experience in the production process behind both small and large scale events. Interns will be expected to help team members manage festival pop ups, research suppliers and source props, point of
sale promotions and retail marketing creative. During this time interns will gain a deep understanding of the creative advertising process.
What makes a great Splendid Futures intern?
A great Splendid Futures intern is someone who is enthusiastic, personable and hard-working. We are looking for someone creative with passion to share and someone who will bring something special to our growing team.
What about the nitty-gritty?
Working hours are 9am-5.30pm on Monday – Thursday. On a Friday, we aim to ‘down tools’ at 3.30pm, tidy our workspace and meet for an hour in a meeting called ‘Splendid Loves’ to share innovative ideas we have seen in the week. We aim to close the doors behind us at 4.30pm ready to start the weekend.
Whilst this is what we set out to do, this can be influenced and changed depending on work demands. This means that sometimes interns may be asked to come in a little early or stay a little late, but we want to keep this to the exception rather than the rule!
All Splendid Futures interns are paid £50 per day.
Splendid Futures interns are looked upon as an investment rather than a temporary fixture. We will invest the time into their training and development, coaching them on all of the skills needed to progress and thrive within the communications industry.
Every week in a mentor catch up, interns are offered the opportunity to share what they are enjoying and what they would like to do more of, giving them a unique opportunity to tailor their experience and ensure they’re getting what they need to kick start and progress in the industry.
How do I join Splendid Futures?

“My mentor helped me develop the skills I needed to become a qualified production assistant. I’m still here – and still very much enjoying every day in the Splendid office.” Irene Carollo, Production Account Executive in the production team
“One of the most unique things about the Splendid Futures programme is that you are never ‘just an intern’. You work on live briefs and are involved in the creative process from the get-go.” Meg Robertson, PR Account Executive
“I would advise anyone that is looking for experience at an integrated communications agency to consider Splendid; I don’t think there are many places like this one!” Carolina Plexidas, Digital Junior Account Executive
