Instagram stories launches live video replays
What is it?
Instagram Stories is widening its lead over Snapchat and rolling out new features to keep everyone shooting video. Instagram has now reached 250 million daily users, up from 200 million in April, 150 million in January and 100 million in October after launching. The milestone shows that Instagram Stories’ growth rate is actually picking up speed, adding the latest 50 million users in two months compared to three months for the previous 50 million.

What does it do?
Previously all Live broadcasts would disappear the moment they had finished. This enables the content to be refreshing and spontaneous, however it can prove frustrating as it is easy to miss live videos. Instagram has addressed this by providing an option to replay a Live broadcast by adding it to your regular 24 hour Story.
Is it a game-changer?
The change could encourage more users to broadcast as they’ll have more chance of a larger audience tuning in.
However, the change eliminates a key differentiator for Instagram, as it now falls into the same category as Twitter’s Periscope and Facebook Live as they also let you replay Live videos once finished. This was a move to “keep up with the Joneses” rather than to pioneer.
