Reminding kids that black is beautiful
For black parents in America, having ‘the talk’ with their children involves more than awkward euphemisms around ‘the birds and the bees’. It’s a warning about racial bias they may unfortunately face.
Working with My Black is Beautiful – a group started in 2006 to spark a broader dialogue about black beauty, P&G have launched a video called ‘The Talk’. It highlights conversations parents will have with their children, from getting pulled over whilst driving, to being referred to as ‘pretty for a black girl’.
This new campaign by P&G to progress towards a less biased future by recognising the power of people from all backgrounds is more relevant and necessary than ever.
The conclusion of the video rings clear; ‘the talk’ is a necessity and we have to end the need to have it.
