Slack has launched a new logo to replace its hashtag icon, prompting intense reactions from users of the popular workplace messaging app. People pointed out the apparent similarities between the new design and the Swastika.

*Slack cited various issues with its old logo for launching the new one, explaining in a blog post that it was “extremely easy to get wrong.” The firm stated: “It was 11 different colours – and if placed on any colour other than white, or at the wrong angle (instead of the precisely prescribed 18-degree rotation), or with the colours tweaked wrong, it looked terrible.”*

Alexa’s news-reading voice just got a lot more professional

Starting today in the US, Alexa will now read out the news in a much more natural, human-like way by selectively emphasising certain words in a sentence in the same way a real newscaster would.

*Amazon has previously experimented with different Alexa voices, such as a whisper mode, but this machine learning method has the potential to quickly train Alexa to speak in a variety of different styles. It took just a few hours of data to train Alexa to speak like a newscaster, Amazon says, suggesting that more voices are a very real possibility.*
