More shopping features are heading to Instagram Stories…

Instagram is once again looking to amp up shopping capabilities with its new rumoured feature: an ‘Order’ sticker. Spotted by a Techcrunch, the new Stories feature looks to appear alongside existing features such as ‘Location’, ‘@Mention’ and ‘GIFS’. Whilst it is not clear exactly how it would work, the inclusion of a green dollar sign on the icon suggests that it could incorporate payment in some way. Given the recent launch of other shopping tools such as ‘checkout’ and the integration of shopping channels into the newly-updated ‘Explore’ section, we wouldn’t be surprised if this does suddenly appear on our apps (despite an Instagram spokesman stating that the company is not testing an in-app shopping feature – the same was said for the launch of the @shop account after all!). Whether that means any account would eventually be able to sell via the app itself, as the appearance of this “order” sticker might suggest, is unclear. It’s more likely that the launch of the feature will, at first, be limited, as with the shoppable tags feature (initially limiting usage to high profile influencers). If nothing else, it’s yet another reminder that we’re going to see a lot more shopping-oriented features on Instagram and that we’ll see shopping and ecommerce play an increasingly larger role on the platform.
