INFLUENCER ADS ARE ABOUT TO HIT YOUR INSTAGRAM FEED AND STORIES
Instagram is once again shaking up the influencer game by allowing advertisers to promote branded content from influencers as ads within both feeds and Stories. Until now, brands who have paid influencers to post sponsored content on their own profiles have had their reach limited to that particular influencer’s following on the platform. The introduction of these ‘branded content ads’, however, opens up influencer sponsored content, beyond just their following alone – just like regular ads which are targeted to audiences with specific interests or of a specific demographic.
The ability for a brand to boost influencer content, meaning it reaches a wider audience obviously provides an added incentive for the creator themselves to partner with a particular brand. For the brand, promoting content from an influencer’s handle inherently gives the post more authenticity than coming from the brand itself. Win-win, right?
For the rest of us, however, it could mean wading through more unwanted #sponcon whilst scrolling through our feeds. Whether you’re all for this new update, or not, it does signify one thing: influencer content is not going anywhere soon.
