Splendid Australasia goes 360 with former Spin MD hire

Posted by admin on Apr 15th, 2009

annalise-brown-splendid-directorWe’d like to extend a warm Splendid welcome to Annalise Brown who today joins us as the third director of our thriving Australasian office (alongside Ben Gotto Smith and Suzanne Scrimgour). She comes to us from Spin Communications where she was MD. Spin is one of the pioneering integrated agencies in Australia and has pulled off tons of great youth and big brand coups and we know her experience there will neatly broaden our current offer.

We’ve already been doing cool stuff like branded content (for Cornetto and DJ Goodwill), digital based 360 brand campaigns (for Johnnie Walker) and a secret society for Johnnie Walker Blue Label, and we know Annalise will be brilliant at helping us keep pushing the envelope.

Annalise has worked on some great local global brands like Lee, Wrangler, Mercedes Australian Fashion Week, Cointreau, Campari, Glenfiddich, Contiki, Coke, Portmans, eBay, VISA, Tropfest and Mattel. We hope this bold move will lock down our success so far in Australia and clear the way for a march up into Asia, working towards our vision to become a global boutique agency.

Please feel free to contact Annalise anytime on annaliseb@splendidcomms.com.

Clandestine Clubbing – Ssssshhhhhh Don’t Tell!

Posted by admin on Apr 6th, 2009

The search for the ‘underground’ is like the unicorn of club culture. As a nation we’re always looking for the next big thing before the mainstream grabs hold of it and turns it from novel to humdrum. Nights like Stick it on in Brighton and Tayo’s Tracksuit Party in London started out as in-the-know shindigs promoted by word-of-mouth that grew virally and organically into part of mainstream club culture. Now, we here at Splendid Towers aren’t saying that’s a bad thing, as something only becomes mainstream when people like it, and you can’t stop people liking stuff!

But fear not intrepid club goer, for new parties are springing up all the time, you just need to know where to look. Witness Bring Your Parents Records in London, the clubbing equivalent of Ronseal, this party invites you to raid your parents’ record collection, blow the dust of that Barry Manilow 12 inch you once used as a frisbee and share it on a loud sound system at a bar in Camden. Simple, viral and utterly Brilliant.

Beg, steal, borrow, then play out!

Beg, steal, borrow, then play out!

There’s plenty more to choose from too, just cast your eye over the Observer’s recent (and fantastic) Secret Britain series, which delves into the sweaty underbelly of this fare land to uncover the hidden gems in all things from quirky pubs to forgotten countryside walks. Read more here and feel free to let us in on any clubbing secrets you’ve stumbled upon.

Kickers & Modern Toss combine for Random Bandits

Posted by admin on Apr 1st, 2009

Kickers are launching a new series of animated short films in association with Modern Toss.  Continuing the brand’s rebellious tradition, Kickers are partnering with writers Mick Bunnage and Jon Link, to create a suite of cartoons, all in the pair’s crude and utterly hilarious style.

Modern Toss have developed 3 strands of film themes which will appear as short skits in each of the 3 episodes that make up the Kickers presents Random Bandits series. See below for some Modern Toss classics!

The series’ 3 strands include Shoe Horn – a footwear obsessed shopper, Dave Beeline – a rowdy driver who pointblank refuses to accept the existence of any places not recognised by his sat nav, and Flytalk – the celebrity-gossiping insects.  The latter will star Slough office goon and Hollywood swashbuckler Mackenzie Crook who has long been involved with the Modern Toss camp. The films will be released in stages from April 6th. Check out www.kickers.co.uk.

Further to the films, Modern Toss have designed their own limited edition Kick Hi boot, details about which will be available online shortly.

To celebrate the films, there is a launch party tonight at the Lock Tavern in Camden, featuring DJ sets from Hot Chip and Foals!
