Having never been to Glastonbury until now I don’t have a basis for comparison against previous years, but I think it’s possible that the talk about this being the best Glastonbury ever could well be true.
Ignoring the two minor blips of a tedious Gorillaz performance and defeat at the hands of Germany, we were treated to five days of blazing sun and incredible performances. When your biggest complaint is that there’s not enough shade, then you’re probably doing pretty well! Some of the highlights included Stevie Wonder, Kylie on stage with the Scissor Sisters, Chromeo, Snoop Dogg, LCD Soundsystem, Snap!, Delphic, Shakira covering The XX, and Florence & Dizzee’s ‘You’ve Got the Dirtee Love’.
I’m sure the other Splendid Glasto-goers have their own highlights, but for my money though the stand out moment was Matt Smith aka the current Doctor Who, joining Orbital on stage for their remix of the show’s theme tune.
Check out the video here for some epic lasers!

Who knew? The service actually launched back in March at SXSW, but savvy brands like Pepsi are fast getting the hang of this powerful little tool that brings the physical product into the digital world...and vice versa. Ohhh it gives us ideas! Check it out at www.stickybits.comPosted By: Pete

Musician and French artist Céleste Boursier-Mougenot has created an installation for The Curve (@ The Barbican 27th Feb – 10th May) that will take the form of a walk-though aviary for a flock of Zebra Finches, furnished with electric guitars and other instruments and objects. As the birds go about their routine activities, perching on or feeding from the various pieces of equipment, they create a captivating, live soundscape.

Lucas-lovers and street wear sartorialists rejoice. Two worlds have collided in the form of the Adidas Originals Star Wars collection. Even if you’re not a huge fan of either, the trailer is the natural successor to the famous Adidas ‘House Party’ advert and it needs to be checked out. Look out for the excellent ‘Imperial March’ remix and cameos from a bunch of famous people including an inexplicable but awesome appearance by Daft Punk. I expect Mark to purchase at least 3 items.

2009 has definitely been the year of
the female solo artist, what with Little
Boots, La Roux, Florence, and Gaga dominating the airwaves. But if
there’s room to squeeze one more in, they should definitely budge over for Ellie Goulding. She basically makes
pop music the way pop music should be – it’s accessible and current, and of
course it’s super catchy. She’s also backed up by brilliant production from the
very talented StarSmith, who is an up
and coming DJ I his own right.

The first trailer for Avatar, by James ‘Titanic’ Cameron hit just yesterday. Cameron first conceived the idea for Avatar over a decade ago, but was waiting for technology to catch up with his vision. When it failed to do so he decided to hook up with some other very clever people and develop his own new 3D technology. The result is apparently a cinematic ‘gamechanger’ that will offer incredible new levels of immersion that no 3D film has yet managed. The trailer might not be in 3D, but it’s still worth a look. The film itself is out in December, so be prepared to book some IMAX tickets early!Posted By: Alec

From the faintly ridiculous (P Diddy "Yeah livin' the raw deal, three course meals. Spaghetti, fettuccine and veal" = File under Too Many Carbs) to the even more ridiculous (LL Cool J "I orchestrated icebergisms" = Say What!?) and so on ...
Ever wondered what New York was like before it was a city? Well, visit Mannahatta, 1609: themannahattaproject.org/home
“After nearly a decade of research, the Mannahatta Project at the Wildlife Conservation Society has uncovered the original ecology of Manhattan. The centre of one of the world’s largest and most built-up cities was once a natural landscape of hills, valleys, forests, fields, freshwater wetlands, salt marshes, beaches, springs, ponds and streams, supporting a rich and abundant community of wildlife and sustaining people for perhaps 5000 years before Europeans arrived on the scene in 1609.”
The Google Map function is excellent – you can check out how all those NYC hot spots looked 400 years ago in all their natural splendour.
Enjoy!

See the Chekov classic at the Old Vic, re-worked by Tom Stoppard and directed by Sam Mendes. Stoppard mixes tragedy with comedy as he tells the story of a Russian aristocratic family broken by their social and financial delusions, and on the verge of losing their family estate and beloved cherry orchard as a result. Ethan Hawke adds some Hollywood glamour and Simon Russell Beale is magnificent as always.
